This week, Paul, Aaron, and Elise attended the the 12th annual NC Craft Brewers Conference (NCCBC) + Trade Expo, aka the Southeast’s premier craft brewing event✨
Bringing together craft brewing professionals from all over NC, this year’s expo was a 3 awesome days packed full of learning, networking, socializing, and shopping. Our team had a blast, learned a lot, and met a ton of other NC brewers. Durham, thanks for having us. Until next year🍻🍻🍻

Born and raised in Asheville, Andrew Scotchie is everything rock-n-roll was meant to be: sweaty, soul-stirring, a little dangerous, and absolutely alive. With the fire of the Stones, the blues of Lightnin’ Hopkins, and the message of a punk-fueled preacher, Scotchie and his band, The River Rats, have become a staple of the Southeast music scene. He’s shared stages with legends, crowd-surfed dive bars, and continues to craft his unique sound. His latest record, Love Is Enough, is a love letter to connection, chaos, and keeping your heart open in a world gone sideways.
Through consistent heartfelt releases, year round touring and active charity work, Asheville N.C. native Andrew Scotchie is a celebrated creative force. His unique brand of rock n roll, blues and Americana has an unmatched sense of urgency and unifying social commentary.

This post sits right between two very important things to celebrate about our head brewer and GM, Aaron🍻
Two weeks ago, this local legend and one of the powerhouses behind French Broad celebrated a birthday! 🎉
And this winter, Aaron marks an incredible milestone… 18 years of brewing French Broad beer. He started with our old owner’s homebrew shop in November 2007 and joined the brewery a couple months later. It’s wild to think of all the beer brewed, people met, memories made, and growth that’s happened over those 18 years.
Aaron is an Asheville native who found a passion in home brewing back in college. He started his brewing journey in AVL at The Asheville Brewers Supply shop with our old owner then soon after landed a job here in the brewhouse.
Aaron always had a dream running a brewery when he was younger and that dream eventually came to fruition as he became the head brewer all those years ago.
Since then, Aaron has lived, breathed, and loved French Broad through every chapter… changes, improvements, transformations, closings, reopenings, losses, and celebrations. He’s poured his heart into every pint and continues to lead our team with that same dedication and love for the craft. Oh, and did we mention he’s also President of the @avlbrewers Asheville Brewers Alliance?
Aaron, you’re the best! We’re so lucky to have you leading our crew and to call you a friend.

Our BLACK LAGER (SCHWARZBIER) is back!
This German Black Lager is robust and bold with a smooth malt finish and slight nutty aroma. Coming in at 7.25% abv, this beer is truly perfect for fall. We’re super excited to have this classic seasonal back on tap. Come in for a pour, maybe today for Reggae Sunday from 3-6 with @chalwaroots!

➡️ FRIDAY 11/7: @douglasmcelvy or @red_clay_revival will be taking the stage 6-9 PM for a free show! Red Clay Revival was founded by Doug McElvy and Ben Joseph in Tuscaloosa in 2010. RCR has been on several tours over the years. McElvy, lead guitarist and songwriter, has played with artists like Yonder Mountain String Band, Tony Rice and Keller Williams. McElvy will be bringing both his talents and friends to the taproom stage 6-9PM. We are so excited for this legend to play at French Broad!
We will also have two local art vendors tonight!
➡️ SATURDAY 11/8: @scarekrows_sounds is back! We’re very much looking forward to our friend and amazing musician, Scarekrow, to bring his music to our taproom stage yet again. He is truly a talent and this will be a show you won’t want to miss if you love supporting local musicians.
➡️ SUNDAY 11/9: @chalwaroots will be playing from 3-6 for a mid-day Sunday funday show, as they do every week! Come out and support this amazing local reggae group!
All shows are free and all ages are welcome. We are pet & family friendly. We have food on site as our pizza shop is now open🍕🍕🍕 Cheers to the weekend!
It’s about time Kayla gets a proper introduction!🍻🍻🍻
If you’ve been to the taproom, chances are you’ve seen Kayla behind the bar, catching live music, and chatting with regulars, which just happens to be one of her favorite parts of the job.
Kayla’s favorite day to work is Wednesdays. She loves when @saylorbrothers mix in bluegrass covers of her favorite songs.
Outside of work, Kayla loves all things growing… houseplants, gardening, mycology, and even brewing her own kombucha and teas. Her Go-to French Broad beer is the Black IPA.
She’s originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, but has called Asheville home since she was 9 years old! What she loves about Asheville is how strong the community is, especially after the way we all came together after Helene. Some of Kayla’s other favorite local spots are BB Barns, Habitat Restore, Lotus gardening shop, Sweeten Creek antiques, the antique tobacco barn, the bins at goodwill, and Battle cat coffee. Some of her fave outdoor spots are Frying Pan Tower and anywhere in DuPont.
Kayla has an 11 year old, one-eyed black cat, named Reggie (slide to see a pic🐈⬛).
A Fun fact about her is that her first job was at F.Y.E., the old CD store in the mall. Before joining French Broad, she worked at Salvage Station, so it’s safe to say music has always been a huge part of her life. She has lived, worked, and played all my time along the rivers in Asheville for the last 10 years so keeping them healthy and clean is really important to her💙💚💛
