The brewers here at the French Broad…

…took extra care this week of chilly nights to protect their newly planted hops from frost. It is the father in us that stands outside eyeing the stalks, new additions to our humble estates, worried, thoughts locked in that future pivotal moment when night is at its deepest, on dawn’s cusp, and cold like sudden death reaches out to steal the leaves from life. These are the men I want making my beer–I can say that much. Can say, too, that these fleeting hours of coolness and light make a French Broad Ryehopper go down all the smoother. How can 36 Fahrenheit degrees lend such liquid warmth to the belly? O, happy magic…

Anyway, it’s April in Asheville. They’re playing baseball again at McCormick Field. The sun is, on the daily, warm glory, and within our cozy Tasting Room the lovely Arielle awaits. What’ll you have? Take a sit, stranger, and unburden yourself of the week.
